Abstract: Objective To explore the efficiency and influencing factors of transanal double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) in the elderly patients. Methods The clinical data of 180 elderly patients aged over 60 years old who underwent transanal DBE examination in the Geriatric Endoscopy Center of our hospital from March 2022 to October 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The general information of the elderly patients was collected, and the quality of intestinal preparation was evaluated by the Ottawa bowel preparation score(OBPS). The efficiency of transanal DBE was calculated according to the ratio of the depth of enteroscopy and operation time and the patients were divided into high efficiency group and low efficiency group. The influencing factors of the efficiency of enteroscopy were analyzed by multiple Logistic regression. Results The univariate analysis showed that the surgical site, polyp or diverticulum disease and cecal intubation time (CIT) were related to the efficiency of transanal DBE. Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that polyp or diverticulum disease, surgical site and time of insertion into cecum were risk factors of the efficiency of transanal DBE in the elderly patients. Patients with a history of lower abdominal surgery showed low efficiency in transanal DBE. Conclusions The history of lower abdominal surgery, polyp or diverticulum disease and long CIT reduce the efficiency of transanal DBE in the elderly patients.
