Abstract: Objective To study the prevalence and risk factors of sleep quality in the elderly patients with meningiomas before surgery. Methods Seventy-one elderly patients with meningiomas aged over 65 years old admitted to Neurosurgery Department 3rd Ward of the First Affiliated Hospital, Air Force Military Medical University from January to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) was used to assess the quality of sleep. Univariate analysis and multivariate Logistic regression were used to identify the independent risk factors of sleep disturbance(SD). Results Among the 71 patients, 34(47.9%) suffered from SD and 37(52.1%) showed good sleep quality. Univariate analysis showed that body mass index(BMI), exercise, the scores of Numerical Rating Scale(NRS), Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS), Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory(MFI-20) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS) were significantly different between the PSQI-based subgroups(P<0.05 or P<0.01). Multivariate Logistic regression model further identified that higher NRS score, higher MFI-20 score, higher HADS-A score and lower KPS score were the independent risk factors for SD in the elderly patients with meningiomas. Conclusions SD is one of the common symptoms in the elderly patients with meningiomas.Poor physical functional status, anxiety, fatigue and pain may induce SD.
