Abstract: Objective To explore the relationship of the serum uric acid(UA) level with metabolic syndrome(MS) in the elderly aged ≥80 years old. Methods A total of 1013 elderly aged ≥80 years old from the Health Management Center of Jiangsu Provincial Geriatric Hospital were enrolled in this study. The serum level of UA was detected, and the MS were evaluated. Pearson correlation and Logistic regression were used to explore the relationship of serum UA level with MS. Results Among 1013 elderly aged≥80 years old, there were 269 (26.6%) cases of hyperuricemia, 210(20.7%) cases of MS. The level of serum UA was positively correlated with age, body mass index, triglycerides and MS, while negatively correlated with fasting plasma glucose and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. High level of UA was an independent risk factor for MS. Conclusions In the elderly aged ≥80 years old, the level of UA is independently related to MS.
