Comparison of linezolid induced thrombocytopenia in elderly and young patients

Abstract: Objective To compare the incidence of linezolid-related thrombocytopenia between the elderly and non-elderly patients, and to analyze the risk factors of drug-related thrombocytopenia. Methods Retrospective analysis was performed on 90 adult patients treated with intravenous injection of linezolid. All the patients were divided into young and middle-aged group and elderly group. The risk factors for linzolid-related thrombocytopenia were explored by multiple Logistic regression model. Results In the elderly group, the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and initial platelet count were significantly higher, while the levels of bilirubin and creatinine clearance rate were significantly lower than those in the young and middle-aged group(all P<0.05). In the Logistic regression model, after adjusting multiple baseline risk factors according to pre-determined criteria, the age was the most important predictor of thrombocytopenia(P<0.05). Conclusions PLT count should be closely monitored when linezolid is used in the elderly patients.
