Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of nursing interventions based on the Patient Health Engagement (PHE) model on cardiac rehabilitation in elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods Elderly patients diagnosed with AMI and undergoing PCI in Nantong First People’s Hospital from January to June 2024 were enrolled and randomly divided into a control group and an intervention group with 40 cases in each group. The control group received routine rehabilitation care after PCI, while the intervention group received a cardiac rehabilitation nursing intervention based on the PHE model in addition to routine care. The differences in quality of life, anxiety and depression, medication compliance, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were compared between the two groups at 1, 3, and 6 months after discharge. Results A total of 40 patients in the intervention group and 38 patients in the control group with one dropout and one lost to follow-up were included in the analysis. At 1 month after the intervention, there were significant differences between the two groups in terms of life quality, anxiety scores, treatment compliance, and LDL-C levels (P<0.05). At 3 and 6 months of follow-up, there were significant differences between the two groups in terms of life quality, depression scores, treatment compliance, LVEF and LDL-C levels (P<0.05). Conclusions The cardiac rehabilitation nursing intervention based on the PHE model can improve the psychological status and medication compliance of elderly AMI patients after PCI, and further enhance their postoperative quality of life.
