Abstract: With the rapid development of society, the harm of environmental pollution has become increasingly prominent. With the progress of population aging, the prevelence of sarcopenia is increasing, which increases the national public health burden. This article reviews the effects and mechanisms of common environmental exposures such as air pollution, heavy metal exposure and noise pollution on sarcopenia, and elucidates that mitochondrial dysfunction and chronic inflammation caused by environmental pollution are closely related to the occurrence and progression of sarcopenia, and emphasizes the hazards of heavy metal exposure, in order to provide new ideas for the clinical diagnosis, treatment, and scientific research of sarcopenia.

Key words: environmental exposure, sarcopenia, heavy metal exposure, air pollution
