Prevalence of motoric cognitive risk syndrome in hospitalized elderly patients with chronic pain and its influencing factors

Abstract: Objective To investigate the prevalence of motoric cognitive risk syndrome (MCR) in elderly inpatients with chronic pain and to analyze its influencing factors. Methods A total of 347 elderly inpatients with chronic pain admitted to Liaoning Jinqiu Hospital from October to December in 2025 were selected by convenience sampling. The General Information Questionnaire, the Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS2002), Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used to collect relevant clinical data of the patients. Non-parametric test and chi-square test were used to compare the clinical data between the MCR group and the non-MCR group. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore the influencing factors of MCR in elderly inpatients with chronic pain. Results The prevalence of MCR in elderly inpatients with chronic pain was 26.22%. There were statistically significant differences between the MCR group and the non-MCR group in terms of age, body mass index (BMI), education level, smoking, drinking, marital status, living and residence mode, number of pain sites, pain treatment methods, and scores of NRS2002, HAMA and PSQI (P<0.01). Logistic regression analysis showed that age, BMI, education level, smoking, living and residence mode, and PSQI score were independent influencing factors of MCR in elderly inpatients with chronic pain (P<0.05). Conclusions The prevalence of MCR in elderly inpatients with chronic pain is relatively high. Age, BMI, education level, smoking, living and residence mode, and PSQI score are independent influencing factors of MCR in elderly inpatients with chronic pain.
