Inflammatory response as a predictor of major adverse cardiovascular events in elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention

Abstract: This review focuses on the risk of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and summarizes the inflammation-related mechanisms, the predictive value of inflammatory biomarkers, and potential therapeutic strategies. Current evidence suggests that inflammation may increase post-PCI MACE risk by impacting plaque stability, thrombosis, and myocardial remodeling. Biomarkers such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and the systemic immune-inflammatory index exhibit certain predictive value. However, most existing studies are based on mixed-age populations, and independent evidence in older patients remains insufficient. In addition, integrated predictive models tailored to this population are still lacking.
