Abstract:
Association of serum gamma-glutamyltransferase with metabolic syndrome in different genders with type 2 diabetes mellitusYU Yun, BIAN Rong-wen, GU Liu-bao, MO Yong-zhen. Department of Endocrinology, Jiangsu Provincial Geriatric Hospital, Nanjing 210024,China 【Abstract】 ObjectiveTo explore the association between serum gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) and the components of metabolic syndrome in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus of Jiangsu Province.MethodsA total of 738 patients with type 2 diabetes(men 438 and women 300)were selected. The levels of serum GGT, lipid, fasting plasma glucose(FBG), fasting insulin(FINS), blood pressure and waist were measured.Results①As the quartile of serum GGT increased, BMI,TG,FINS and HOMA-IR were increased in both genders; ②Serum GGT was positively correlated with waist, BMI, DBP,TG, TC, FINS and the numbers of components of MS in men(P<0.01), and was positively correlated with TG in women(P<0.01), and serum GGT had the highest correlation with TG;③Serum GGT was positively correlated with HOMA-IR(r=0.281 in men and r=0.230 in women, P<0.05);④In linear regression model, serum GGT was mainly influenced by waist and TG in men and TG in women, respectively.ConclusionsSerum GGT is closely related with insulin resistance and the components of MS. Among the components of MS, serum GGT had the highest correlation with TG, suggesting that serum GGT may have close association with hepatic insulin resistance. 【Key words】gamma-glutamyltransferase; type 2 diabetes mellitus; metabolic syndrome; insulin resistance; HOMA-IR
